Newland AIDC Is Now Available at Ganson

A serious alternative in industrial data capture, and a well-timed one.

Ganson now carries the Newland AIDC industrial line: handheld and cordless scanners, rugged mobile terminals, wearables, RFID readers, and industrial fixed-mount imagers. If your operation runs on barcode scanning and you have only ever bought from the two names that dominate the category, this is worth ten minutes of your attention.

The Newland AIDC industrial line is distributed and supported across North America by Veritronics, which means the hardware, the parts supply, and the service coverage all sit behind a single North American channel rather than an overseas support queue.

Newland is not a new entrant. It has been building automatic identification and data capture hardware for more than two decades and holds over 200 worldwide patents in barcode and imaging technology. What makes it different is not marketing. It is where the engineering sits.

Newland builds its own decoding stack

Most of the barcode industry assembles devices. Newland manufactures the piece that actually does the work.

Newland is one of the only vendors worldwide that designs and produces its own 2D decoder ASIC, the dedicated chip that turns a captured image into usable data. It also owns the full imaging pipeline built on top of that silicon:

  • UIMG image processing and decoding, tuned for damaged, low-contrast, and poorly printed codes

The market just moved, and your incumbent may have moved with it

On August 3, 2026, Brady Corporation completed its $1.4 billion acquisition of Honeywell's Productivity Solutions and Services business. That is the division behind Honeywell's scanners, mobile computers, and printers. It is now part of a different company with a different strategy, a different roadmap, and a reorganized channel.

Ownership changes of this size take time to settle. Product lines get reviewed. Support structures get rebuilt. Reseller relationships get renegotiated. None of that is a criticism of the products themselves, but it is a real operational question for anyone standardized on that fleet: who owns the roadmap for the device you are about to buy 400 of, and who answers the phone in eighteen months.

If you were already planning a refresh cycle, this is the natural moment to evaluate a second source rather than default to renewal.

Both warranties run one year. One of them is called Limited for a reason.

This is where fleet budgets quietly break, and it is worth being specific rather than vague. Zebra's document is called a Limited Warranty, and the word limited is doing real work.

Zebra's own warranty statement sets the standard term at twelve months for mobile computers and covers manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship. Accidental damage and normal wear are excluded. Serialized accessories such as cradles and power supplies carry 90 days. Non-serialized accessories such as cables and stands carry 30. On a large fleet, that accessory tail matters more than most buyers expect.

Two details in that document deserve a closer read than they usually get. Zebra's sole obligation for defective hardware is repair or replacement, at Zebra's discretion, on a "return to service depot" basis. And the warranty itself conveys no technical support beyond determining whether a repair qualifies. If a device is behaving strangely but is not clearly broken, the warranty does not get you a phone call.

Support, Android security patching through LifeGuard, and the VisibilityIQ repair dashboard are all entitlements of a paid Zebra OneCare contract rather than the warranty. OneCare has to be purchased within 30 days of the device, which means the decision gets made at the point of sale whether or not the budget conversation is finished. For operations under PCI-DSS or HIPAA obligations, running without the patch program is not really optional, so the contract is not really optional either.

Newland hardware runs one year as well. The difference is what the year contains.

The North American service program is run by Veritronics, and the baseline tier ships with every Newland hardware purchase at no additional cost. It is not a contract you have to remember to attach inside a 30-day window, and it is not a line item that appears after the quote is approved. Technical support runs the full twelve months, not a triage call to establish whether the unit qualifies for repair. Repairs run through a dedicated depot for the whole term, with field technicians available for on-site work when a failure is holding up a line rather than one operator. An upgraded tier is available for operations that need faster turnaround, but it is an upgrade, not the entry point.

So the comparison is not one year against one year. It is a Limited Warranty that covers defects and conveys no support entitlement, against one year that includes twelve months of technical support, depot repair, and technician access without a separate contract. Compare the two structures line by line before comparing unit prices. The gap is usually wider than the spec sheets suggest.

Start with a pilot, not a fleet

Nobody should replace 300 devices on the strength of a blog post. The right move is a small evaluation unit in the environment that actually breaks scanners: the cold aisle, the DPM station, the labels that come off the trailer soaked.
